Rules are for a reason:

  • Don’t sneak out after curfew.
  • Safety reason is obvious
  • Remember, you signed a Success Contract and there are the guidelines, which are legally binding, you have agreed to follow.
If you break a rule, there are three things that can/will happen.
  • You will be counseled by a leader.
  • You will call your parents to inform them of the situation.
  • If the offense is serious enough or happens again, you will be sent home (at your parent’s expense,)
Count Offs
  • Since we are a large “family” we want to keep track of our members
  • We will count off any time we leave a location and possibly other times as well.
  • Don’t leave the group after you have been counted, even for a few seconds
  • Don’t cover for someone else who wants to leave, even for a few seconds
  • When the count off begins, be quiet and listen for your turn. It will go more quickly and you can get back to the business of visiting!
    • Sometimes there are rewards (like 30 extra minutes of free time) when you do it quickly and efficiently :)
Courtesy
  • Be on time. Period. (Remember, P2P time is 10 minutes early! Takes a bit of time to load a coach with 50 people)
  • This includes to any assigned meeting location, such as meals, getting on the bus, being back to the bus, etc.
  • Don’t always be the last one to show; be early!
  • If you are always the one we are waiting on, you will become unpopular in a hurry
Pay Attention
  • Any time something unusual happens, watch your personal belongings
  • Tourist places where crowds gather is where pickpockets gather
  • Stay together with your group or in groups of at least 4, with one male
Scams
  • Intimidation: Take your picture and then try to intimidate you to buy them
  • Distractions: Scuffles, choking, or some other unusual event to gain your attention so someone else can grab personal belongings
  • Signs: “Watch out for pick pockets.” Then they watch to see if you look to see if yours are there so they’ll know where it is!
Crisis Situations
  • Leaders are prepared at annual trainings
  • There is a manual to follow in certain situations
  • Some one is at the head office 24/7 to help in any situation
  • People to People continually keeps apprised of any situations in countries we visit
  • People to People is a professionally run organization
No Brainers
  • No alcohol
  • No drugs
  • Even if you are “of age” in the countries we visit, we follow American laws on legal ages.
  • Take these rules seriously; we do and the police in other countries do too!
Balconies
  • Don’t lean over, climb on, or stack balcony furniture to climb on
  • Call for help if someone needs it; don’t be a hero
